Chinese trademark law revision - Part 2

Part 2 – A multiple class system for trademarks has been introduced in China

On May 01, 2014 a revision of the Chinese trademark has been enforced. A system that only allowed one class per trademark has been changed to a system that allows multiple classes per mark. (Chinese Trademark Law Article 22, revised) By this revision the management of trademark rights has become more convenient and the filing cost has been reduced.

As for other Asian countries, in India and the Philippines there is a multiple class per mark system, but in Thailand and Malaysia only one class can be used per mark. In Indonesia a trademark can be filed in up to 3 classes.
